James Young is a shooting guard/forward for the Boston Celtics, formerly of the University of Kentucky.

As a junior at Troy High School (Troy, MI), Young averaged 25.1 points, 10.5 rebounds, 4.5 assists and 2.5 steals. He earned first-team All-State honors from the Associated Press, Detroit News and Detroit Free Press. As a senior at Rochester High School (Rochester, MI), he was ranked by ESPNU as the #2 shooting guard in the country with an average of 27.2 points 16 Rebounds, , 5.7 assists, 4.5 steals, and 2.3 blocks per game.

Young signed with the University of Kentucky on October 11, 2012, and was one of the top-ranked basketball players in the class of 2013. He scored a career-high 26 points, including nailing five 3s in Kentucky’s win over UT Arlington and a team-high 20 points in the National Championship vs Connecticut. In 2013 he played in the Brand Jordan Classic, the McDonald’s All-American Boys Game, Detroit News 1st Team All State, Max Preps All American Team, ALL OAA 1st Team, and the Oakland County Dream Dream.

On April 17, 2014 Young declared for the 2014 NBA Draft. He was drafted 17th by the Boston Celtics on June 26, 2014.
